As the years went by and I realized that I was still waiting for someone to come and help me, but no one was coming. It left me frustrated at having, yet again, pull myself out of the muck. I was not a happy camper. I was just tired.
I have been following Mel Robbins for quite some time and when I came across this video I found the answer.
After watching this video, I realized that the only option I have is take care of myself or in Mel’s words to parent myself. So, if I don’t do it, who will?
It is a difficult concept to accept because, because at the end of the day, you’ll have to realize that you and you alone are in charge of your life.
I am so happy to have discovered Mel Robbins 5-Second Rule. One of my key takeaways is that
You can’t control what you feel, but you can control what you think and how you behave.
As much as you struggle with this, you always are going to need to give yourself a push. That’s the point where the 5-Second Rule comes into play.
When you know you should do a certain task and instead you scroll through Social Media, watch a YouTube video, play a computer game or just sit in front of the TV, that’s the time to use the 5-Second Rule:
Count down 5 4 3 2 1
And just start doing what you are supposed to do and have been putting off. After a short time, you realize that you actually enjoy what you are doing and can’t wait to see the benefits.
You are creating a new habit and want to do it all the time now. Your life is changing right in front of your eyes.
